Up close with Google's new and improved Project Ara prototype

Google has come a long way since it first publicly demoed a "working" Ara Prototype during Google I/O last summer. That device was big and didn't boot properly.


But the Spiral 2, the newest prototype unveiled during Wednesday's Project Ara developer conference, is the most advanced yet. It not only boots but it has cellular connectivity. More importantly, it looks like a phone we'd actually want to buy.



The prototypes we looked at were functional but we weren't able to turn them on — so our impressions are limited to the hardware rather than then the software functionality. Read more...
