Francesco Totti is a footballing institution in Rome and Italy as a whole, but it's still pretty good going to get votes to be the next president of Italy—especially when you're neither standing for election nor eligible to participate.
Italy is in the process of picking a new leader after Giorgio Napolitano stepped down earlier in January due to ill health.
Any Italian citizen can be nominated by politicians, as explained by Forza Italian Football:
The Chamber of Deputies, the Senate and 58 regional representatives, totalling over 1,000 people, began the first of four rounds of voting on Thursday, and incredibly Roma captain Totti received five votes.
However, as exciting as Totti for president sounds, you have to be 50 years old to hold the position, and though it might feel as if he's been around forever, Totti is still some years short.
It didn't stop politicians and regional representatives nominating him, though.
Maybe next time.
