Andy Carroll Injury: Updates on West Ham Star's Status and Return

West Ham United forward Andy Carroll didn't enjoy his return to Anfield as much as he would have hoped, as the former Liverpool man was stretchered off the pitch with an injury following a duel with Emre Can on Saturday, as shared by ESPN FC:

The tackle in question was a bad one, for which the 26-year-old was rightly booked, and fans and pundits alike showed little sympathy when he signaled the bench to let the doctors know he wouldn't be able to continue.

The Liverpool Echo's James Pearce described the scene quite well:

As the Hammers' second-leading scorer, per WhoScored.com, Carroll couldn't have gotten injured at a worse moment, with the Reds holding a one-goal lead at the time of the incident.

West Ham and Liverpool are locked in a battle for one of the European tickets, which added even more intrigue to Saturday's match.

The Hammers don't have a natural replacement capable of weighing as much on a defence as Carroll can, so fans will have to pray team doctors have some good news regarding the star striker's injury in the coming days.
