LONDON — Two effigies of Russian president Vladimir Putin were burned last night at the Lewes Bonfire Night celebrations.
The Sussex town, which is infamous for its celebrity statue burnings, paraded two versions of the Russian president along the streets before torching them. One depicted Putin in a green mankini sitting astride a tank while the other had him perched on a crashed Malaysia Airlines plane.
The figures were part of the town's annual Bonfire Night celebrations, which take place on Nov. 5 every year. In the past they've burnt the likenesses of several famous world characters, including Syrian president Bashar al-Assad, Prime Minister David Cameron and Osama Bin Laden. Read more...
