The Carolina Panthers (3-7-1) and Minnesota Vikings (4-7) will face off in icy conditions today. A win today will help set up a final showdown between Carolina and New Orleans next week. But first, the Panthers must take care of business against a Vikings team that has seen its share of struggles this year.
It's likely the frigid temperatures will play a role in today's outcome, and for the Panthers, that could be a negative thing. Carolina only has two wins when the game time temperature is 32 degrees or colder. However, they will welcome back Mike Tolbert, who has been missing in action over the past several weeks, and his presence could allow Mike Shula to open up the offensive playbook.
Minnesota will be without running back Jerick McKinnon, which means that the Vikings could use a committee of running backs to move the ball on the ground. That could play into Carolina's favor since the Vikings will be limited offensively.
Bundle up, stay warm and get ready to enjoy some late-season football.
