After sitting out last week with a bye, the New Orleans Saints will return to action Sunday when they take on the Detroit Lions in a key Week 7 contest.
The Saints (2-3) will play the role of visitor for the fourth time in six games this season, and they’re still looking to claim their first road victory.
Coach Sean Payton’s club was victorious last time out, as the Saints earned a hard-fought 37-31 home win in overtime over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
New Orleans boasts the NFL’s second-ranked offense, but Drew Brees and Co. will have their work cut out for them today, as Detroit (4-2) enters the contest with the league’s top-ranked defense. Ndamukong Suh spearheads a dominant defensive front for the Lions, and the Saints will need to be sharp in all phases in order to put points on the board.
On the other side of the ball, New Orleans defensive coordinator Rob Ryan’s unit has struggled for the better part of the season. The Saints pass rush has been disappointing thus far, but today’s game presents an opportunity for the likes of Cam Jordan and Junior Galette to get rolling against a Lions offensive line that has yielded 21 sacks in just six games.
