New York health officials are investigating the clinic that was treating Joan Rivers when the actress and comedian went into cardiac arrest last week
The probe was prompted by circumstances surrounding the out-patient procedure.
"The New York Department of Health is investigating the matter," Monica Mahaffey, a spokeswoman, said in a phone interview. "Because there is an open investigation we cannot provide further details."
CBS News reported the department's investigation earlier.
The 81-year-old actress, comedian and red carpet fashion critic died on Thursday, according to a statement released by her daughter. Last week Rivers was hospitalized and later placed on life-support after going into cardiac arrest at a doctor's office during a procedure on her throat.
