As the Oakland Athletics look to prolong their stay in the 2014 postseason, they may not be able to count on Coco Crisp.
According to Hardball Talk's Drew Silva, Crisp left Tuesday night's American League Wild Card Game against the Kansas City Royals after possibly injuring his hamstring. Jonny Gomes entered as his replacement, which resulted in Sam Fuld moving to center field.
Before exiting the game, Crisp was 2-for-6 with one run scored and one run batted in.
During the regular season, the veteran outfielder boasted a slash line of .246/.336/.363 with nine home runs, 47 runs batted in and 19 stolen bases.
In the event the A's get past the Royals, Oakland will certainly need Crisp in the ALDS. Fuld's not much of an offensive threat, while Gomes is a below-average defensive player.
Losing Crisp isn't the kind of thing that will sink the Athletics' World Series hopes, but that task would become more difficult without him.
