As has been teased for several months, The Simpsons killed off a character during the season premiere Sunday night, but, as Bart would put it: What the Hell, man?
After all the hype, many people went into tonight's episode — eerily called "Clown in the Dumps" — expecting to see Krusty kick the bucket. But, in fact, as we predicted, it was Rabbi Hyman Krustofski (voiced by Jackie Mason), father to the beloved clown.
To be fair, executive producer Al Jean has tried numerous times since the death was first teased to temper expectations, telling reporters back in July that he was surprised when the new nugget generated so much interest.
