Green Bay Packers Become 2nd Franchise with 700 Wins

With Sunday's 38-17 trouncing of the arch-rival Chicago Bears, the Green Bay Packers became the second franchise to win 700 regular-season games, joining none other than their hated rivals in the Windy City, per Mike Jurecki of Fox Sports 910.

Continuing the trend from recent seasons, Green Bay quarterback Aaron Rodgers steamrolled the Bears defense, while the leaky Packer defense was able to slow down Chicago by picking off a pair of passes from Rodgers' counterpart, Jay Cutler.

Both franchises are known for old-school, smashmouth football, but the rivalry has moved in the same direction as the rest of the league, with an emphasis on quarterback play and the passing game.

In that regard, the Packers have a clear advantage, as Rodgers showed Sunday afternoon by completing 22 of his 28 passes for 302 yards and four touchdowns.

Of course, even with their recent dominance in the rivalry, the Packers won't be passing the Bears on the all-time franchise wins list anytime soon. Chicago's 732 victories still set the standard, 32 ahead of Green Bay's 700, and 69 clear of the third-place New York Giants' 663, according to Pro-Football-Reference.com.

That being said, the Bears' history isn't quite as impressive as the Packers', with the former largely up-and-down since dominating under legendary head coach George Halas from 1920 to 1941.

The Packers have been far more successful in the Super Bowl era, with four wins in five trips to the Big Game. The Bears, meanwhile, have made just two appearances in the Super Bowl, with just one victory by that memorable 1985 team.
