Those who could still see through melting faces during Prince's 8-minute performance on this weekend's Saturday Night Live may have noticed something about his band: All the primary musicians are women.
There's some precedent there, as a few of us are old enough to remember Wendy and Lisa (Wendy Melvoin and Lisa Coleman), the highest-profile members of his early band The Revolution, and whose work is all over the supreme classic Purple Rain. And from Apollonia to Sheena Easton (and even Carmen Electra), Prince has always had a propensity for female protégés.
