Alexis Sanchez is WhoScored.com’s European player of the week. The Chilean turned out a 10-out-of-10 performance for Arsenal in their 3-0 win over Burnley on Saturday, an encounter he scored twice in.
Alexis has now directly contributed to six of Arsenal’s last seven league goals, while no player has won more WhoScored.com Premier League man-of-the-match awards (three), each of which have come in his last three appearances.
The Gunners star is partnered up front by Real Madrid ace Cristiano Ronaldo. The Portuguese was at his best for Los Blancos once again, netting one and assisting two to help send Madrid to the summit of La Liga in their 4-0 win at Granada. With five key passes and one accurate through ball to his name, Ronaldo could have had more than two assists in the encounter.
Kevin De Bruyne features in the midfield this week following his performance in Wolfsburg’s 4-0 win away to VfB Stuttgart. Like Ronaldo, De Bruyne helped himself to one goal and two assists, the latter of which came from four key passes. The young Belgian was able to complete eight successful dribbles in the match, a feat bettered only by Julian Draxler (10 vs Hoffenheim) in a single Bundesliga game this season.
Teammate Ivan Perisic also takes his place in the team this week. The 25-year-old bagged a brace in the victory, with Perisic netting from each of his two shots on target. With four tackles and three interceptions, the Croat exhibited the impressive defensive side of his game, which helped Wolfsburg maintain a run of form that has seen them win each of their last five league games.
Luca Rigoni partners De Bruyne in the heart of the midfield. The 29-year-old features after a notable showing for Palermo in their midweek 1-0 victory over Chievo, with Rigoni netting the winner late on to secure a vital three points. The Italian also won five aerial duels in the fixture, displaying his dominance, and made a commendable eight tackles to help Palermo to victory.
Victor Moses completes the midfield in WhoScored.com’s European team of the week. The Nigerian has been a revelation this season since moving to Stoke City on loan and he again proved his worth in the Potters’ 2-2 draw with West Ham, opening the scoring on the half-hour mark. Moses was a consistent threat over the 90 minutes, completing seven successful dribbles to reinforce his WhoScored.com strength of "dribbling."
Shkodran Mustafi is in the XI at centre-back on the back of Valencia’s 3-1 win at Villarreal. The German, making his sixth Liga start of the season, netted a brace as Valencia continued their fine start to the campaign. Mustafi also ensured Los Che picked up all three points in the away victory, making three tackles—one of which was a last-man tackle—and three interceptions.
Kalidou Koulibaly partners Mustafi at the heart of the back line. The Napoli defender turned out two impressive performances for the Partenopei in their meetings with Atalanta and Roma. The powerful Frenchman made a combined 10 tackles, 11 interceptions and nine clearances over 180 minutes of league action to earn an average WhoScored.com rating of 8.21 over the last week.
Gael Clichy comes in at left-back this week, despite having originally been penned as a substitute on Sunday. Injury to Aleksandar Kolarov in the warm-up saw the Frenchman drafted into the Manchester City starting XI for the Manchester Derby and the former Arsenal man did not disappoint. Clichy provided the assist for Sergio Aguero’s eventual winner against Manchester United and, with the majority of City’s attacks coming down the left (41 percent), played a key role in their offensive moves. The left-back’s defensive qualities were also tested, but Clichy dealt with the United attack comfortably, making three tackles, five interceptions and six clearances as City held out to secure a vital three points.
Jens Wemmer completes the back line as high-flying Paderborn continued their good start to the season. The right-back played the most key passes (three) of all players in a 3-1 win over Hertha Berlin and provided the assist for what proved to be a decisive goal from Elias Kachunga in the encounter.
Completing WhoScored.com’s European team of the week is Atalanta’s Marco Sportiello. While Atalanta have underwhelmed in Serie A this season, Sportiello was on form to help secure points against Napoli and Torino. The 22-year-old made a combined seven saves over the two fixtures, five of which came in the surprise 1-1 draw with Napoli. Meanwhile, Sportiello claimed four crosses and made four punches in 180 minutes of action to help lift Atalanta away from the relegation zone.
