How does our everyday trash end up in the sea? About 80% of oceanic debris is blown in from landfills or flows in waterways from cities. Here's more:
In 1992, thousands of rubber ducks and other toys went overboard from a container ship during a storm. The toys have since beached themselves all over the world thanks to ocean currents.
To end on a note of hope, people are trying to turn all this trash into treasure. Check out this effort to make a profit from turning waste plastic into petroleum.
