The New York Rangers will look to continue their dominance over the Pittsburgh Penguins when they host Game 2 of their first-round Stanley Cup playoff matchup on Saturday at Madison Square Garden.
After defeating Pittsburgh 2-1 in their series opener, the Rangers can now boast eight straight games since they were last defeated by the Penguins in regulation. The streak dates back to May 7, 2014, when the Penguins took a 3-1 lead in the teams' second-round playoff series before the Rangers came back to win three straight games.
The big stories in Game 1 were a hot start for the Rangers, who scored both their goals in the first period, and some undisciplined play by Pittsburgh. The Penguins took five minor penalties in the game compared to just one for New York.
Pittsburgh gained momentum as the game progressed, but stars like Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin were neutralized. Only fourth-liner Maxim Lapierre was able to solve Rangers netminder Henrik Lundqvist.
No lineup changes are expected for either team. Defensemen Christian Ehrhoff and Derrick Pouliot remain sidelined for Pittsburgh, while Rangers blueliner Kevin Klein participated in Saturday's optional skate but has not yet been cleared to return to action.
Game 2 gets underway at 8 p.m. ET from Madison Square Garden, with television coverage on NBC in the U.S. and CBC in Canada.
