2,000 people evacuated from offices after cable fire in central London

LONDON — A large part of central London was without power Wednesday afternoon after a cable fire under the pavement in the Holborn area.



London Fire Brigade said smoke was seen emerging from under the pavement, prompting them to raise the alarm and evacuate 2,000 people from the area.

The Fire Brigade, which has a number of firefighters at the scene, said a 25-metre cordon is now in place. People tweeted scenes from outside their workplaces.
