It will be power versus power on Saturday when No. 6 seed Petra Kvitova of the Czech Republic faces off against 13th-seeded Eugenie Bouchard of Canada at Wimbledon's women's final.
The match is the first in Grand Slam history to feature two women born in the 1990s. Twenty-four-year-old Kvitova is the Wimbledon ladies' champion from 2011 but has not been back to a Grand Slam final since beating Maria Sharapova at the All England Club three years ago. Twenty-year-old Bouchard is a rising star who won the Wimbledon girls' title in 2012.
More recently, Bouchard is the only woman to have reached the semifinal of the last three Grand Slam championships—the 2014 Australian Open in January, the French Open in May and now Wimbledon.
Bouchard was spared from facing past champions Serena Williams and Maria Sharapova on her road to the Wimbledon final, as each was defeated in an earlier round. But the first Canadian ever to reach a Grand Slam final was confident and decisive as she disposed of No. 3 seed and 2014 French Open finalist Simona Halep in the semifinal, coming from behind to win the first-set tiebreak on her way to defeating Halep 7-6, 6-2. Now, she's poised to see if she can bring home her country's first championship.
