Few rookies were better than Kiko Alonso last season, giving Buffalo Bills fans high hopes for 2014. However, his sophomore season has already taken a detour after he suffered a knee injury.
"We have learned tonight that Kiko Alonso injured his knee while working out in Oregon," Bills general manager Doug Whaley said, per the team's official website. "We do not have the details at this point, but early indications are that it may be significant."
Alonso's injury could be really serious according to Ian Rapoport of NFL.com:

Albert Breer of NFL.com thinks that the reason Buffalo released a statement was because it isn't optimistic about the injury:
Alonso finished third in the NFL in combined tackles last year (159) and won the Defensive Rookie of the Year last season. How he missed out on the Pro Bowl is anybody's guess. Field Yates of ESPN highlights how often the rising star was on the field:
NFL.com's Daniel Jeremiah believes that the 23-year-old's versatile skill set makes him nearly irreplaceable:
Although Buffalo finished 6-10 last season, a marked improvement looked in the cards. The Bills arguably played below their talent level, and that would change in 2014.
Without Alonso, though, their defense will be without one of its best players, so any talk of a turnaround will be muted.
