The 8-inch Asus VivoTab Note 8 tablet is among one of the newer Windows-based tablets to hit the market, promising a full Windows 8.1 experience in a much smaller form factor
The device ($279 for 32GB) is smart in theory, but like Dell, Lenovo and other competitors, it's stuck with an awkward dual-OS problem. While VivoTab accommodates Windows mobile/desktop schizophrenia with as much technical and design aplomb as it could, VivoTab doesn't really stand out from its Windows 8.1 tablet competitors.
Although the device offers many advantages — it's fast and responsive and comes with a microUSB memory jack — the small-size design psychology of a small Windows 8.1 tablet is elusive. On a desktop, swiping away the fancy Windows Modern (Windows Phone) user-interface to reveal the more pedantic and familiar Windows desktop behind it is perfectly workable, especially when controllable via a touchpad or mouse.
