Day 9 of the 2014 FIFA World Cup featured some standout displays on both the offensive and defensive sides of the ball.
In Recife, Italy were kept at bay by a tenacious Costa Rica side while France found the back of the net five times against Switzerland in Salvador.
In Friday’s final match Ecuador rose to second place in Group E following a come-from-behind victory against Honduras.
