The Intercontinental Championship is clearly cursed. First, former Intercontinental champion "Bad News" Barrett got a shoulder injury, costing him the title. Now, Cesaro, who's set to compete in the Battle Royal that will determine a new IC titleholder, suffered an eye injury on the June 30 edition of Raw, per WWE:
WWE physician Chris Amann said, via WWE.com:
We did some specialized testing and staining of the eye which showed he did have a scratch on the right side of the eye, which is called the sclera and not on the cornea, which is the clear part of the eye. We’re going to keep his eye patched for the next 24-48 hours, use some artificial tears and re-evaluate him tomorrow prior to his match [against Dolph Ziggler on WWE Main Event].
Eye injuries are obviously no joke, so WWE will take every precaution necessary to ensure Cesaro won't aggravate the problem.
Until a timetable for the injury is available, it's difficult to determine how this might affect Cesaro's recent push. He looked like a perfect heel to take Barrett's place in the Intercontinental Championship picture before heading for greener pastures.
The good news is that he has nearly three weeks to get ready for Battleground on July 20. That should give him enough time to recover so that he's not removed from the Battle Royal altogether.
