Randy Orton Injury: Updates on WWE Star's Head and Return

Not only did Randy Orton lose out on a chance to win the WWE World Heavyweight Championship, he suffered a nasty head injury in the process Sunday night during the Money in the Bank pay-per-view.

WWE physician Dr. Chris Amann discussed the injury on WWE .com:

We had an incident during the WWE World Heavyweight Championship Ladder Match where Randy was struck in the head with the ladder, which caused a laceration to the top of his scalp.

Immediately after the match, we brought him back to the training room where we thoroughly cleaned the wound and put 11 staples in his head. We are going to monitor him for any signs of neurological changes and we’ll follow up with him tomorrow at Raw in Hartford, Conn.

ESPN's Robert Flores, who attended the show in Boston, snapped a photo of Orton being treated by WWE medics during the match:

Seeing blood in a WWE ring has become more and more of a rarity. As the company has pushed to create a safer product, the tactic of "blading" has been outlawed. Orton's injury came the hard way, as he was hit awkwardly with the ladder.

It's unlikely that this injury will affect the long-term plans for Orton at all.

Since it is only a laceration and not something more serious, like a concussion, he should at least be able to appear on WWE programming to further whatever his current storyline will be after Money in the Bank.
