Livestreaming with apps like Meerkat and Periscope are all the rage now. Not to be left out of the fun, GoPro announced on Tuesday its own livestreaming solution: the HEROCast and HEROCast BacPac, two wireless HD transmitters that cost $7,500. Nope, that's not a typo.
As free apps, Meerkat and Periscope are aimed at the everyday user. GoPro's HEROCast, however, is designed for professionals — specifically extreme sports athletes.
What classifies as professional? For starters, the two GoPro attachments can livestream in high definition in 1080p and 720p resolution at 60 frames per second, something both Meerkat and Periscope can't do.
