Chelsea will have to make do without star goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois for the foreseeable future, as the Belgium international suffered a broken thumb prior to the team's match against Newcastle on Saturday.
ESPN FC reported the injury:
The 22-year-old returned after a three-year loan spell with Spanish champions Atletico Madrid during the summer and immediately took over the starting role from club legend Petr Cech.
With the talented giant between the sticks, the Blues embarked on a 23-match undefeated streak and easily qualified for the knockout stages of the Champions League as group winners.
Courtois missed time with a muscle injury and a nasty head injury after a collision with Arsenal's Alexis Sanchez earlier this season, the first two blips on the Belgians' injury history. Per WhoScored.com, he started nearly every match during his three-year spell with Atletico.
