Slate's Panoply platform is serious about podcasts

Slate's Andy Bowers has worked on podcasts for nearly 10 years. It took that long for him to feel that the medium had established a foothold that could be used to launch something more ambitious than a few individual podcasts.


Then, a show called Serial came along.


"I think last summer was when we really felt that the marketplace was ready for an expansion," Bowers told Mashable. "Then, coincidentally, Serial happened, and it suddenly made our jobs a lot easier."



Bowers, who had run Slate's podcasts, wanted to find a way to use the decade of built-up infrastructure and knowledge to create a new business. Now, in the post-Serial afterglow, Slate is ready to try something new. Read more...
