Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll is owning up to what some may feel was one of the biggest play-calling mistakes in Super Bowl history.
Carroll almost certainly earned everlasting ignominy after keeping the ball out of Marshawn Lynch's hands on the goal line in the fourth quarter, opting instead for a pass play at the New England Patriots' 1-yard line. Malcolm Butler intercepted a pass from Russell Wilson, sealing the Seahawks' fate.
After the game, Carroll explained his decision-making process, per ESPN:
He added how the outcome of the game will weigh on his conscience for some time, per The Associated Press:
Nothing Carroll can say will offer solace to Seahawks fans or players who saw the team snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.
No matter how many more Super Bowl wins Carroll and/or Seattle pick up from here, he'll never live down that fateful play call on Sunday night.
