Human Rights Watch accuses Sudanese soldiers of mass rape in Darfur

Sudanese soldiers systematically raped at least 221 women and girls during three days of attacks on a town in the embattled region of Darfur, monitoring group Human Rights Watch said in a 48-page report released Wednesday.

Witnesses told the organization that dozens of Sudanese soldiers went from house to house, looting property, beating residents and raping women and girls in the Darfur town of Tabit between Oct. 30 and Nov. 1, 2014.

The claims are based on the accounts of 15 survivors, one female witness, and 23 credible sources, which provided the group with firsthand information to document 27 cases and reports of 194 more. Read more...
