Turkey restores Twitter, now stripped of offending photos

Turkey has lifted restrictions on Twitter access for its citizens, hours after President Tayyip Erdogan ordered a social media ban.


The move follows Twitter's compliance with Turkey's request to remove images of prosecutor Mehmet Selim Kiraz, who died last week in a shootout between police and militants from the far-left Revolutionary People's Liberation Party-Front (DHKP-C).



Kiraz, who investigated the death of a teen during anti-government protests two years ago, was taken hostage last week by DHKP-C members. Photos depicting the Turkish prosecutor held at gunpoint hours before his death had surfaced via services such as Twitter, Facebook and YouTube. Read more...
