President Barack Obama will remove Cuba from the U.S. government's list of nations that sponsor terrorism, the White House announced this week, leaving only three countries on the list: Iran, Sudan and Syria.
Iran is an Islamic theocracy that the U.S. has long accused of secretly trying to develop nuclear weapons, recent diplomatic breakthroughs not withstanding. Beyond that, the U.S. administration has charged that Iran is sowing unrest in the Middle East by supporting Shiite militias in the region.
Sudan, for its part, has for years suffered through civil wars and political unrest, costing the lives of millions of people. Its President Omar al-Bashir is wanted by the International Criminal Court for war crimes and crimes against humanity. Read more...
