Meet Cher Coner. She decided one day to help kids in Detroit who were out of school for the summer, which at first sounds great, right? I mean, kids … summer … they go together.
But it also means these kids lacked the meals that school provides when it's in session. It happens in too many cities across the country every time school is out, and it's one of those hidden problems that a lot of people are not aware of.
In their neighborhood, they turned it into something that reached much further than anybody had ever imagined.
As she says, "It's bigger than a lunch program. Much, much bigger."
Fair warning: you might just get a little teary-eyed. I know I did.
