It's official: NFL names first full-time female referee

In a landmark move, the NFL named Sarah Thomas as its first ever permanent female official on Wednesday.


The league announced Thomas's appointment as a line judge along with eight other referees on Wednesday after the Baltimore Sun broke the story that Thomas would get the job last week



A Mississippi native, Thomas started off judging high school football and worked her way through the ranks, breaking new ground as she went.
