The Chennai Super Kings lived up to their tag as the 2015 Indian Premier League favourites, as they showed steel aplenty to beat the Delhi Daredevils by one run in what was a tense tournament opener for both sides.
Having won the toss, Delhi put Chennai into bat and JP Duminy’s decision was proved to be the correct one, as his bowlers restricted a dangerous Super Kings line-up to just 150 for seven. Dwayne Smith top scored with 34, while Nathan Coulter-Nile was impressive with the ball, taking three for 30 off his four overs.
The Daredevils response started poorly, losing a flurry of wickets early on and failing to chase down their 151 target with any real conviction. Albie Morkel played superbly for his half-century, but ultimately it proved to be in vain, as the Delhi outfit lost soft wickets at critical times in the match.
Here’s how this result affects the overall tournament standings and a closer examination of how the action played out on Day 2 of this IPL season.
