Five women's rights campaigners held for more than a month by Chinese authorities were released on bail on Monday, but an international rights groups has said the action is simply not enough
The women had been held in a Beijing detention center without official charges since early March after being arrested as part of a larger group who planned a protest ahead of International Women's Day. Their conditional release allows for charges to be filed at a later date.
The women, who were dubbed the "Beijing Five" as international attention to their case grew, planned to raise awareness about sexual harassment by distributing leaflets in several Chinese cities that highlighted the issue of domestic violence. Read more...
