Take out your wallet. Put your card in the ATM. Deposit your check and withdraw some cash. It's typically safe, the fees are usually reasonable, and nearly everyone can do it — simple actions, and all part of a routine that millions of us take for granted


Across whole regions of the globe, however, these very basics of banking are not a given


In Africa alone, fewer than 25% of the continent's population have a bank account. In India, 2/3 of all adults are without access to the kind of financial infrastructure many of us hardly remark upon.
