Microsoft announced it was buying Acompli, a startup that makes email apps for iOS and Android (but not Windows Phone), on Monday, demonstrating a touch of pragmatism in attempts to make inroads on mobile.
In a blog post announcing the move, Rajesh Jha, corporate VP of Outlook and Office 365, said the purchase is "part of a company-wide effort to help people accomplish more with their mobile devices." Microsoft migrated its Office suite of products to iOS and Android this year.
Jha didn't outline terms of the deal; Re/code reports that Microsoft is paying north of $200 million for the company. Acompli's total funding until now was $7.3 million in a Series A round led by Redpoint Ventures. Read more...
