The FAA issued a restriction for flights over airspace in Iraq on Friday.
The Notice-To-Airmen (NOTAM) restricts U.S. carriers "from flying in the airspace above Iraq due to the hazardous situation created by the armed conflict." The FAA had already restricted flights at or below 30,000 feet in the country.
"Due to the potentially hazardous situation created by the armed conflict between militants associated with the Islamic state in Iraq and the Levant and Iraqi security forces and their allies," the NOTAM states, "all flight operations in the Baghdad flight information region (ORBB) ... are prohibited until further advised."
