The New York Giants can't avoid the injury bug. They were plagued by it last year, and it's starting already in the 2014 preseason, with cornerback Prince Amukamara straining his groin against the Indianapolis Colts on Saturday night.
According to Ralph Vacchiano of the New York Daily News, the 25-year-old won't return to the game:
Amukamara started all 16 games for the Giants last year. Although he only recorded one interception, he was second in passes defended (14) in addition to forcing two fumbles.
New York lists him as one of the two starting cornerbacks on the team depth chart heading into the regular season.
The good news is that the injury happened now and not when the important games are underway. Amukamara has a few weeks to recover before the Giants kick off the 2014 season against the Detroit Lions on Sept. 8.
Unless the groin strain proves to be more severe, he should be on the field for the opener.
