North Korea Detained American for Leaving Bible Behind, Report Says

North Korean authorities arrested a U.S. citizen after he left a bible in the bathroom of a restaurant, according to a new report.


Tourist Jeffrey Fowle, the second American since April to be detained by the country, left an English and Korean-language bible underneath a waste bin in the bathroom of a club for foreign sailors in the city of Chongjin, Reuters reported, citing anonymous sources.



A cleaner who found the bible reported it to authorities, which then arrested Fowle days later at an airport on May 7, as he was about to board a flight out of North Korea. The book reportedly contained Fowler's name, personal photos and his phone number. Read more...
