Manchester United Transfer News: Major Cristiano Ronaldo, Memphis Depay Rumours

Real Madrid are "prepared to listen to offers" for Cristiano Ronaldo, according to AS . The Spanish publication indicates Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain represent the most likely destinations for the Portuguese icon, with Manchester City also said to be considering a move.

Los Blancos are reportedly "not happy with his form," per AS . The report also adds Ronaldo "feels poorly treated by the club fans and has began to show signs of tiredness," further potential reasons as to why he could be sold.

As previously reported by Antony Kastrinakis of The Sun (h/t Sky Sports), former United manager Sir Alex Ferguson is said to have recently met Ronaldo to convince him to return.

He remains adored at the Old Trafford club, who need a handful of top-class signings to mark themselves as legitimate silverware contenders again. AS cites the meeting, but it also suggests PSG's "great relationship with (the player's agent) Jorge Mendes" and "economic power" could see Ronaldo land at the Parc des Princes.

Sports Illustrated writer Grant Wahl recently suggested Ronaldo could shock everyone after leaving the Bernabeu:

File this one for down the road, but multiple sources tell me that Cristiano Ronaldo’s current plan is to come to MLS after he finishes at Real Madrid, with one source saying he would likely arrive on a free transfer in 2018 once his current contract ends.

Matt Law of the Daily Telegraph believes this could work out for United:

Louis van Gaal is said to be moving toward the capture of Memphis Depay from PSV Eindhoven, a player who can inject pace and incision into United's lineup. Greg Stobart of Goal.com suggests United sources have revealed the club are making "strong progress" along the path to signing Depay, beating Tottenham and Liverpool to his services.

Stobart indicates the 21-year-old "has sought assurances that he will feature heavily in Van Gaal's plans." The Dutch manager provided Depay with considerable responsibility at the 2014 World Cup after utilising him in an attacking wing-back role, something he could replicate at the Theatre of Dreams. Depay is a goalscorer, though, and currently leads the Eredivisie charts with 16, per Sky Sports.

Football writer Elko Born previously detailed the close relationship between Depay and Van Gaal:

B/R UK's Ryan Bailey and Stan Collymore recently discussed summer transfers that would significantly improve United:

In an ideal world, Ronaldo and Depay would both reside at the club. The latter couldn't ask for a more dedicated role model—someone who has worked hard to reach his physical peak—but the arrival of both seems highly unlikely.

Ronaldo remains a marketing dream for Madrid, who would be taking a huge risk by selling him back to the club who propelled him to greatness. United fans are always going to stay optimistic that a Ronaldo return would allow the club to dominate England once more.

The player's stuttering form and reported irritation adds fuel to stories that will burn forever. Depay's arrival does make sense, however, and could be among the summer's most prominent deals.
