Jon Stewart's goodbye: 'Daily Show' doesn’t deserve 'even slightly restless host'

LOS ANGELES — Jon Stewart opened the Tuesday edition of The Daily Show like nothing was up, upbeat and in good spirits, maybe even a little ... restless. But he did give the studio audience a cryptic peek into the very near future:

"Lots to talk about tonight. You probably know things these folks [gesturing around the studio] don't know just yet, which is a twist on things but — we'll get there," he said to the TV audience, which by then already knew that he'd be leaving his Daily Show post sometime later this year.
