Uber hires IBM's former chief privacy officer to assess its policies

Reacting to an outcry from consumers about the company's access to a "God view" of all data in the network, Uber has hired a data privacy expert to "conduct an in-depth review and assessment" of the company's current policies.


The expert, Harriet Pearson, is a partner at Hogan Lovells, a Washington, D.C., law firm who has been dubbed the "First Lady of Privacy" by one legal publication. Before joining Hogan Lovells, Pearson was VP, security counsel and chief privacy officer at IBM, where she worked from 1993 to 2012, according to her LinkedIn profile.
