LOS ANGELES — Nightcrawler isn't your typical Hollywood Halloween movie — and that's a good, creepy thing.
Jake Gyllenhaal plays an ambitious newbie paparazzi videographer in this neo-noir film that premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival to great acclaim. No supernatural scares here; Nightcrawler is horrifying in a visceral, cerebral and very grounded, making it perfect Halloween counter-programming.
