Giants Win 2014 World Series: Highlights, Twitter Reaction to Celebration

The San Francisco Giants went into Kauffman Stadium and defeated the hosting Kansas City Royals 3-2 on Wednesday to clinch the 2014 World Series in a sensational Game 7 finale.

FOX Sports showed the final out:

Keyed by a historic relief effort from ace starting pitcher Madison Bumgarner, manager Bruce Bochy's Giants overcame a devastating 10-0 loss in Game 6 to take the Commissioner's Trophy back to San Francisco.

Giants fans were out in full force in the visiting ballpark:

As could be expected, the champions went all-out in their jubilant celebration:

Here is video footage of Game 7's conclusion:

For future plans, the victors' official fan account alluded to the coincidental color scheme of the impending holiday:

ESPN personality Ryan Ruocco's description of Bumgarner's five-inning shutout effort to close the World Series didn't seem too hyperbolic:

Veteran Tim Hudson got the start for the Giants and was enthused about the long-awaited opportunity, per MLB's official Twitter account:

It was short-lived, per Jon Morosi of Fox Sports 1:

At least Hudson had the last laugh to a degree:

The Royals chased Hudson after just 1.2 innings, scoring twice to answer the Giants' two runs in the top of the second, but Jeremy Affeldt did a commendable job in relief with 2.1 innings of one-hit ball.

In the top of the fourth, designated hitter Michael Morse drove in Pablo Sandoval for his second RBI of the game; it turned out to be San Francisco's winning run. ESPN Stats & Info noted the significance of Morse's run-scoring single:

That was all Bumgarner needed to bring it on home for the save.

Fox Sports 1's Mike Hill raised a good point about how the Giants will be perceived in MLB lore:

ESPN's Skip Bayless was impressed with how San Francisco was able to get the job done in enemy territory:

Buster Olney of ESPN hinted that Bochy's bust may as well commence molding in Cooperstown:

This marks the third time in as many even-numbered years that San Francisco has emerged triumphant in the Fall Classic. Now the trick for the Giants is to maintain success on an annual basis, so Bochy will have to figure out which buttons to push to avoid a letdown in 2015.

A big part of San Francisco's World Series defense figures to be the quality of its starting pitching. Between the waning arms of Hudson and Jake Peavy, along with the struggles of past star Tim Lincecum, that is an area the Giants must address, even with Matt Cain coming back.

The Royals will be disappointed to fall just one game short of the ultimate professional baseball glory, but they have to be thrilled to have made it this far. Their postseason could have ended in the Wild Card Game, but K.C. persevered and got all it could ask for—a chance at the top prize in its home stadium.
