What to Do with an Extra Room?

Deciding what to do with an extra room is one of the sweetest interior design troubles you can hope to have. You have a whole extra room to dedicate to something and the world is your oyster, as they would say. There are no limitations to what you can do and you can truly enrich your life by utilizing your room for something special that you and your family will be able to enjoy for years to come. If you are not sure where to go with your extra room, we have a few ideas for you.

Somewhere to relax

We live in a hectic world and we all feel a bit overwhelmed every now and then. In situations where you feel like you are going to burst, you need something more than your bedroom – you need a room that will be absolutely and utterly dedicated to relaxation and nothing else. Two most common variants of this are the relaxation room and the sleeping room.

A relaxation room is a totally private space where you will put a piece or two of super-comfortable furniture, perhaps a couple of shelves for books and nothing else. Perhaps a stereo system. A sleeping room is not just another bedroom. It contains absolutely nothing but a bed. No TV, no wardrobes. No nothing. It’s just a bed.

Release the artist in you

Most people have certain artistic talents and needs and it is often very difficult to cater to these without a specialized room where one can indulge in artistic activities. Once again, you have two main types of art rooms to choose from – the music room or the studio.

A music room will be a specialized room where you will keep all of your instruments and where you will be able to escape to in order to make your own music. It can be small or big, it can be packed with equipment or it can feature just your guitar or piano. A studio is even less demanding. All you need is equipment for your artistic endeavors and a lot of light.

Fun zone for the kids

If you have kids, one of the best ways in which you can decorate the extra room that you have is by setting it aside for the youngest. It is not supposed to be a substitution for their own bedroom, but something of a fun zone where they can do whatever they want. You can fill it with toys or with crayons and paper, all kinds of stuff where they will be able to play without anyone having to worry about the mess.

One of the best things about the fun room for the kids is that you will limit or completely do away with the mess in the rest of the house or apartment. They will keep their playing in this room and the rest of your living space will be free of toys that have been left behind or mess that they might make when drawing or painting or whatever.

Growing your own food and brewing drinks

If you are one of those people who are serious about their food and their drinks, you might want to turn this extra room into a place where you can do this stuff. You can make an indoor garden or you can even grow mushrooms and vegetables. If you wish, you can turn it into your own little brewery. All you need are some quality beer making supplies and you are half way there. Keep in mind, however, that if you decide to transform your room into a food and beer place, you might have to worry about the mess and the smells. Therefore, these rooms work much better in houses than apartments.
