An explosion rocked a building in Manhattan's East Village Thursday afternoon, sending debris into the street and a grey plume of smoke into the sky.
Police quickly cordoned off the scene as a fire raged inside the buildings. First responders treated at least one person in the back of an ambulance. An initial report in the New York Post citing law enforcement sources said up to 30 were hurt.
A spokesperson for the FDNY told Mashable the scene is still developing and that they have sent over 130 firefighters and 30 units to the scene. The FDNY had responded to a report of an initial explosion at 125 2nd Avenue and say there is heavy smoke at the scene. They didn't know if anyone was injured yet. Read more...
