Ibe Facing Four Weeks Out

Monday, Mar. 2

After getting a knock against Besiktas in the Europa League last-32 second leg, Ibe has now discovered he could miss up to four weeks of action, according to Chris Bascombe of The Telegraph.

The initial injury forced him out of Liverpool’s 2-1 win over Manchester City, but as noted by Bascombe further tests have revealed that the blow received was worse that initially anticipated.

According to the piece the 19-year-old is hoping to return for the “final six or seven games” meaning he’ll miss the crunch clash with fierce rivals Manchester United on March 22.

Ibe has blossomed in the scattering of appearances he has made in a red shirt this season. Since shining in the Merseyside derby against Everton , the youngster has provided an effervescent threat on the right flank for the Reds, showcasing remarkable composure in an unfamiliar role as a right wing-back.

As we can see here courtesy of Squawka Football, he’s a thrilling player to watch and loves to get at opponents:

Lazar Markovic deputised for Ibe in the win against the champions and, like the teenager, he provides an incisive attacking threat from this position. Brendan Rodgers also has Glen Johnson who could slot in on the right flank, while Jordan Henderson has already played in that particular position on a few occasions this season.

In terms of depth Liverpool definitely have cover as they go in search of a top-four finish, but for the young player it’s a major blow.

Since returning from his loan spell at Derby County Ibe has lit up the Premier League, playing with dynamism and an admirable fearlessness. After getting a taste for English football's top flight, the youngster will be desperate to regain his fitness as soon as possible and force his way back into first-team contention.
