The defending champions stuttered but eventually sealed a six-wicket victory thanks to Suresh Raina's own ton, and India remain unbeaten heading into their quarter-final against Bangladesh.
In Hobart, Australia crushed Scotland by seven wickets to seal second spot in Pool A, with skipper Michael Clarke top-scoring for the co-hosts with 47 as they chased down 131 in 15.2 overs.
