Thousands upon thousands gathered in Selma on Sunday to march for the 50th anniversary of "Bloody Sunday," that day, on March 7, 1965, when 500 to 600 people tried to march across the Edmund Pettus Bridge to advocate in favor of voting rights for African Americans, only to be met with billy clubs and tear gas from Alabama police officers
