It's about time.
Exactly 400 days since he was arrested in his Cairo hotel room, Egypt has freed the Australian Al Jazeera journalist Peter Greste, according to Egypt's state news agency and Egyptian officials.
Greste, alongside Canadian-Egyptian Mohamed Fahmy and Egyptian Baher Mohamed, faced terrorism-related charges that included spreading false news. They vehemently denied the charges and said their trials were a sham.
Greste will be deported to Australia on Sunday. The Associated Press, citing an Egyptian official, reports he is currently on his way to the airport. Read more...
