Garbage is like magic. You place it in a bag, put it on the street, and when you wake up in the morning, it's gone. Magic!
In reality, that garbage is still sitting around on the planet, and it really does not go away. That's not good for you or me.
Gregg Segal is the artist who created this series, and his artist statement really hits home: "7 Days of Garbage is a series of portraits of friends, neighbors, and other acquaintances with the garbage they accumulate in the course of a week. Subjects are photographed surrounded by their trash in a setting that is part nest, part archeological record. We’ve made our bed and in it we lie.” Wow, only seven days for each photo ... multiplied by the 313 million people in the U.S. alone. We really need to work on this.
