Located 575 miles southeast of Miami, Turks and Caicos Islands represent a small archipelago of eight major islands and numerous caves. On the north side, facing the Atlantic Ocean, long coral reefs protect the islands, while ensuring excellent surfing. They represent two groups of tropical islands in the Caribbean. Caicos is larger and Turks is the smaller. They are known for its tourism and financial center. Turks and Caicos Islands are close to the Bahamas, but are politically separated from them and represent a separate entity. The total population is about 45,000.
